The main attribute of ionized alkaline water is that it acts a powerful antioxidant whilst also helping the body combat acidification caused by processed foods and modern lifestyle. Given that our body is mostly made up of water, it is common sense that the quality of the water we drink should have an impact on our general health and wellbeing.

Jupiter Science ionized water is water that has been filtered using a world class filtration system and then subjected to an electrical charge producing negative hydroxide ions - which are commonly referred to as 'antioxidants'. These negative ions help to combat the damaging effects of positively charged free radicals in the body and it is the action of free radicals which is largely associated with the ageing process. Unfortunately, the ageing effects of free radicals will always win eventually - but the positive effects of negative ions in the water you drink gives your body a helping hand in its daily battle against over acidification and the damaging effects of free radicals.

We are lucky that, in most parts of the Western world, we can drink the water that comes straight out of the tap. However, is it correct to say that because our tap water does not make us violently ill that it is good for us to drink?

The problem with tap water is that it is hurriedly recycled and has not undergone the natural sterilisation process of evaporation, condensation and filtration in the same was as 'natural' water. In order to make waste water safe for us to drink, water companies use an arsenal of toxic chemicals such as chlorine which kill off micro-organisms but which remain present in the water itself. This is not to mention chemicals, hormones and pollutants that have entered the water prior to it even reaching the treatment plant.

Most people tend not to like the taste of London water and in many areas around the country, the smell of chlorine is very powerful in water which has just come out of the tap. These are both examples of heavily treated water which, whilst may not make us immediately sick, are doubtless contaminating our systems over the longer term. The water we drink is the single most important factor to health and wellbeing - so doesn't it make sense that we should take control of it?

Ordinary tap water contains may contaminants, so the first thing our ionizers do is to filter the water using a world class filtration system. Once cleaned the water is then put through an ionisation chamber to charge the water with healthy hydroxyl ions which make the water more alkaline.

The antioxidant power of a substance is measured by its ORP reading where a positive ORP is oxidising and a negative ORP is anti-oxidising. As we know, freshly squeezed orange juice is a powerful anti-oxidant and has a negative ORP in the region of -250. Water from a Jupiter Science ionizer provides clean fresh drinking water with an ORP ranging from -200 to -500 ORP depending on the source water. Just imagine - ordinary tap water with the anti-oxidant power (or greater) of freshly squeezed orange juice - on tap!

Ionized alkaline water can help your body's wellbeing by providing:

Negative hydroxyl ions which neutralise free radicals and thus help against premature ageing.
Greater hydration compared to normal water.
Increased energy levels.
Oxygenation of the body.
Helping your body maintain its acid/alkaline balance.

But that's not all - Jupiter Science ionizers have other daily advantages:

Washing vegetables in ionized alkaline water can significantly improve their ORP. Using high pH water to wash your fruit and veg will not only remove pesticides but allow them to acquire a higher negative ORP by the absorption of electrons.

Tea and coffee taste better when made with ionized alkaline water.

The hang-over effects of alcohol are reduced by ionized alkaline water.

The waste acid water produced by Jupiter Science ionizers can be used as a natural disinfectant for cleaning or on the skin for conditions such as eczema.

A 5.   Alkaline ionized water is for drinking but the by-product acid water is also useful. Strong acid water can be used as a disinfectant for cleaning surfaces, whilst mild acid water has been proven to be beneficial for the treatment of skin conditions such as eczema.

A 6.   Depending on the characteristics of the source water, a typical ionized water ORP is between -200mV and -500mV. Anything below -550mV is considered too strong for human body to take internally, and therefore not recommended for drinking.

Q 8.   I'm cofused by all the ionizers available - what should I look for? Back to top

In an effort to stand out from the crowd, some ionizer companies use marketing techniques which sound impressive but on closer inspection do not warrant attention. What you want in an ionizer is a machine which will provide a good level of ionization and be reliable over time. Jupiter Science has been making ionizers longer than all the other companies combined using tried and tested technologies. Do not be fooled by numbers such as:

1. A High Wattage
This simply means the ionizer is less efficient and requires more power to do the same job as a Jupiter Science ionizer. It also means your electricity bill will be higher.

2. A High Number of Plates
More plates does not make a better ionizer. Usually companies that offer a large number of plates do do because their technology is inefficient and so they need a greater number of plates to create the same level of alkaline water as a Jupiter Science ionizer. High plate numbers also make for a larger unit - some of which can be really quite large - do you really want an ionizer the size of a small suitcase sitting on your kitchen counter top?

3. A High Flow Rate
Our ionizers dispense 2 litres per minute which we have established is more than ample for 99% of customers. A higher flow rate results in more water passing through the ionizer more quickly and thus, whilst your alkaline water may come out slightly faster, you are also created more waste water at the same time.

4. A High Number of Filters
Ionizers rely on some minerals in the water in order to do their job. What you want from your filtration system is a filter which will remove the 'bad' elements from the water but leave the healthy elements for your body to absorb. Jupiter Science world class Biostone filters do exactly this - they filter out the bad but leave in the good. We offer two levels of filtration 0.1Micron and 0.01Micron. For most people the 0.1M Biostone filter is all they will ever need. If, however, you are particularly concerned about bacterial contamination then a 0.01M Biostone filter will remove these microscopic organisms (which are not present in most developed countries tap water in the first place). Remember, more filters means more filters to replace and therefore greater running costs.

5. SMPS Power Supplies
The benefit of an SMPS power supply is that it is cheaper to manufacture and lighter in weight (and thus less expensive to transport from the factory). SMPS power supplies have no affect whatsoever on the quality of output water from your ionizer.
 

Q 9.   Is an ionizer with more plates better? Back to top

The focus on the number of ionizing plates has been created by some of the more recent entries into the ionizer market. In reality, few people like alkaline water above a pH of 9.5 and the health benefits of water with a higher pH than this are dubious. So having more plates to achieve a higher pH is purely a marketing ploy used by some companies.

In fact, the companies that claim 'more plates is better', do so because their plates are often less efficient and so require a greater surface area and more electrical power to achieve the same result as Jupiter Science ionizers. The other downside of large plate size / high plate number is that you end up with a a very large ionizer - about the size of a small suitcase - hardly practical for most kitchen work surfaces!

The only instance where more plates does have an effect is to do with flow rate. If it is absolutely essential that you have a flow rate of 3 litres per minute, then more plates will achieve this but this is at the expense of greater power consumption and greater water wastage. We find that 2 litres per minute is more than ample for 99% of customers and creates an ionizer that is economical for both power consumption and water usage.
 

Q 10.   What about SMPS power supplies? Back to top

Just like the focus on number of plates, some of the newer ionizer manufacturers have taken to talking about SMPS power supplies vs. transformer power supplies.

Let's get one thing straight: an SMPS power supply does not improve the quality or ionization of your drinking water! Some manufacturers use clever wording to imply that the power supply in some way improves the ionizer output water - it doesn't.

An SMPS power supply is simply a different kind of power supply which is cheaper to manufacture and lighter in weight than a transformer supply. It is these two qualities of SMPS (cheaper to make and lighter) that make them so popular with manufacturers and certainly nothing to do with improved ionization.
 

Q 11.   Which ionizer should I buy? Back to top

Your choice of ionizer will depend on a number of factors including: durability, build quality, cleaning mechanism, size of unit, pH range, ORP capabilities and whether the unit can be located under-counter or not.

Unlike some other ionizers, Jupiter Science ionizers include a self-cleaning system which allows you to continue to use the unit, even whilst the cleaning cycle is in process. Other ionizers have to go into hibernation mode and will not produce any alkaline water whilst the cleaning cycle is in operation.

Jupiter Science is the undisputed market leader in ionizer manufacture and has been manufacturing ionizers for almost 30 years. You can therefore be confident that the build quality of our ionizers is second to none and should provide you with many years of trouble free service.

We would also recommend you consider the size of the ionizer itself. Jupiter Science ionizers are designed to achieve optimum results whilst retaining as small a footprint as possible. Some ionizers on the market are literally the size of a small suitcase!

It is also worth mentioning that Jupiter Science ionizers are designed to be ultimately flexible. Both our Athena and Melody models have an optional under-counter conversion kit should you wish to locate your ionizer out of sight. Q 12.   What about the people who say water ionisers don't work? Back to top

There is one main detractor of water ionization - a retired chemist who clearly has an axe to grind.

What we say is this:

To our knowledge, this individual has never ever used or owned a water ionizer. To us that's tantamount to claiming that "the world is flat", but then refusing an offer to go into orbit to see if the statement is correct.

His accusation against water ionizers is that 'potable water cannot be ionized'. This is simply not true and can be very easily proven with a simple pH test. Indeed, all Jupiter Science ionizers come with a free pH reagent which allows you to set exactly the level of ionization you desire.

When referring to potable water the author is being very careful with his choice of words because his definitions of 'potable' water are: 'pure water', 'pH neutral water' or 'ion free water', which are all ways of saying: 'water with zero dissolved mineral content', or water better known to you and us as 'Distilled Water'.

Any water ionizer manufacturer will tell you that you cannot ionize distilled water because you need naturally occurring dissolved minerals within the water to achieve ionization. Why anyone would drink totally pure water is beyond us because, don't forget - your body needs these minerals too! A retired chemist should surely know this.

There is also the assertion that water ionizers create bleach! Again, simply untrue. The bleach comment is misinformation deliberately used to back up an unfounded argument, and is based on the fact that electrolysed super-saturated sodium water can create a strong alkaline output thanks to the creation of sodium hypochlorite (NaClO). However, the water used to create this output has either had to be specially saturated with sodium (otherwise known as brine), or sea water has to be used. Neither of which, coincidentally, are potable!

Your tap water will exhibit hydrochlorite content as well as chlorine thanks to their use in municipal water treatments. Alkaline water ionizers however, electrolyse filtered water where the filters included within a water ionizer not only remove most harmful toxins, including chlorine, but eliminates almost all sodium also, giving you some of the cleanest, healthiest water you can drink.

For those people who are not prepared to accept that science is an evolving discipline we will not even try to convince them otherwise - some people are happier thinking there is nothing left for mankind to learn, that modern science has the answers and that it is 100% correct.

In the West water ionizers are still relatively new and not considered 'mainstream' - so some people refute the idea - even though over a million water ionizers are sold every year worldwide. But, we don't know of anyone who would go back to drinking normal tap water once they have tried alkaline ionized water - and even our skeptic retired chemist acknowledges that there are possible benefits where ionized water is concerned.

Whether its due to its alkaline nature, its negatively charged antioxidant ions, or due to a more delicate bio-mechanical process that we are yet to fully understand, the bottom line is ionized alkaline water has had a remarkable, positive impact on millions of people worldwide, for an amazing variety of reasons.

If you have submitted an order online and need to make changes, please call us on 0208 8193104 and we can correct your order for you. Don't panic if your call is sent to voicemail because this simply means our lines are busy at the time, so please leave a message and we will deal with your request.

Please note: we aim to dispatch all orders placed before 2pm on the same day so it will be impossible to make changes if your order has already been dispatched.

A 4.   We aim to dispatch all items ordered before 2pm on the same day. Most orders are delivered next day but this is not guaranteed.
 
Q 5.   What is your guarantee and returns policy? Back to top

All Jupiter ionizers come with a 2 year guarantee. In the unlikely event that your ionizer needs repair, simply return the unit to us and we will take care of the rest. If your ionizer needs repair outside of the guarantee period then rest assured that we subsidise repair costs so you will not be landed with an excessive bill. Repairs outside of the guarantee period are capped at £150 + vat, no matter what the repair.

Under the EU Directive on Consumer Rights you have the right to return unwanted goods. This "cooling-off" period gives you 14 days in which to cancel your order. The period starts the day after the day that goods are received.  If you wish to cancel an order within the 14 day cooling-off period, you may do so providing the goods are in a re-saleable condition, we ask customers exercising this right to return the goods unused, in the original packaging with all user information. The Distance selling regulations state that you are allowed to examine the products as you would in a shop, for example you can take an Ionizer of out a box and examine it, however we ask that you do not insert or pass water through it.

To exercise this right please contact us. We will need confirmation in writing, as well as your name, address and invoice number, please submit this via email to orders@ionvida.com . When exercising the right to cancel during the cooling-off period, goods are to be returned at the customer's expense. We will send you the correct address to return the goods, this may not be the same address from which the goods were sent. Do not refuse to accept the goods from the courier, accept the goods from the courier and the correct address to return the goods will be supplied within 24 working hours.

Refunds are not dependent on the goods being returned. If goods are not returned to us after a customer has exercised the right to cancel, we require that they are made available for collection. The direct cost of collection will be deducted from the refund. You will remain liable for the cost of any goods that are not returned or made available for collection.

You must use a reputable delivery service that can provide evidence that they have delivered the goods back to us. Please also ensure that goods are packed with sufficient outer packaging to ensure that no damage is caused in transit, please make sure the plug on any electrical item is packed in sufficient wrapping so that it cannot scratch, dent or break the equipment in transit. We will not be responsible for such damage and would suggest you take out insurance with your courier to cover this.
Assuming that our return's policy has been adhered to returned goods will be credited within 30 day of our receiving them.

If you are ordering on behalf of a business the Distance Selling Regulations do not apply and our contract of sale with your business is complete when you accept delivery of the goods. It is important that you select the correct product for your needs as you will not be entitled to a full refund if you wish to return the goods. We do not normally accept the return of goods bought by a business unless the product is new and in its original, unopened packaging.
