If you have a technical issue with your water ionizer, the chances are that a few minutes cleaning is all that is required. Please see below for information on common support queries.
1. | What to do if the water flow reduces or stops completely | Back to top |
A 1. |
The main attribute of ionized alkaline water is that it acts a powerful antioxidant whilst also helping the body combat acidification caused by processed foods and modern lifestyle. Given that our body is mostly made up of water, it is common sense that the quality of the water we drink should have an impact on our general health and wellbeing. Jupiter Science ionized water is water that has been filtered using a world class filtration system and then subjected to an electrical charge producing negative hydroxide ions - which are commonly referred to as 'antioxidants'. These negative ions help to combat the damaging effects of positively charged free radicals in the body and it is the action of free radicals which is largely associated with the ageing process. Unfortunately, the ageing effects of free radicals will always win eventually - but the positive effects of negative ions in the water you drink gives your body a helping hand in its daily battle against over acidification and the damaging effects of free radicals. |

2. | Installing your ionizer using the diverter tap or mains supply | Back to top |
A 2. |
Installation of your new ionizer couldn't be simpler. With the exception of the Delphi (which is a dedicated under-counter unit), we suggest that whilst you are getting familiar with your unit that you first do a simple counter-top installation using the diverter tap. Connecting your ionizer to the mains is often desired since it keeps the ionizer easily accessible whilst allowing for quick operation of the unit since there's no need to switch the diverter tap valve to direct the cold water supply to the ionizer. The other benefit is less exposed supply pipe which some people find more pleasing. |

3. | Installing your ionizer using the under sink conversion kit | Back to top |
A 3. |
Both the Athena and Melody models can be converted to under sink units with the optional under sink conversion kit. The advantage of using the under sink conversion kit is that the ionizer itself resides under the counter, completely out of sight and you have a dedicated tap head unit for the supply of alkaline ionised water. The disadvantage is that you will need to access the ionizer under the counter in order to change the pH settings. However, from our experience, most people settle on their desired pH level within just a few weeks. |

Q 4. | What are the benefits of using a water ionizer? | Back to top |
A 4. |
Ordinary tap water contains may contaminants, so the first thing our ionizers do is to filter the water using a world class filtration system. Once cleaned the water is then put through an ionisation chamber to charge the water with healthy hydroxyl ions which make the water more alkaline. The antioxidant power of a substance is measured by its ORP reading where a positive ORP is oxidising and a negative ORP is anti-oxidising. As we know, freshly squeezed orange juice is a powerful anti-oxidant and has a negative ORP in the region of -250. Water from a Jupiter Science ionizer provides clean fresh drinking water with an ORP ranging from -200 to -500 ORP depending on the source water. Just imagine - ordinary tap water with the anti-oxidant power (or greater) of freshly squeezed orange juice - on tap! Ionized alkaline water can help your body's wellbeing by providing: Negative hydroxyl ions which neutralise free radicals and thus help against premature ageing. But that's not all - Jupiter Science ionizers have other daily advantages: Washing vegetables in ionized alkaline water can significantly improve their ORP. Using high pH water to wash your fruit and veg will not only remove pesticides but allow them to acquire a higher negative ORP by the absorption of electrons. Tea and coffee taste better when made with ionized alkaline water. The hang-over effects of alcohol are reduced by ionized alkaline water. The waste acid water produced by Jupiter Science ionizers can be used as a natural disinfectant for cleaning or on the skin for conditions such as eczema. |

5. | If you see a drop in output water pH | Back to top |
A 5. | Limescale build up can result in a drop in output water pH level as well as reduced flow. This is because the source water is not coming into contact with the ionising electrodes within the electrolytic chamber. If the pH of your output water has dropped significantly then consider the descaling procedures below. |

6. | Descaling Without Pump (Athena, Melody, Venus) | Back to top |
A 6. |
1. Decommission the ionizer by disconnecting it from the water and electricity supply and detach the hoses attached to the outlet port of the ionizer. 2. Fully empty the ionizer of any remaining water by tipping the unit until all water is removed. 3. Re-attach the outlet port hoses. 4. Remove the chrome drinking water spout and leave to soak in a bucket of vinegar solution. 5. Fill the coral calcium port with vinegar until it begins to flow out of the hoses for cold water inlet and acid water outlet. 6. Take the acid water outlet hose and raise it above the level of the top of the ionizer unit and secure with masking tape. 7. Refill the coral calcium port with vinegar to the top of the port. 8. Leave the ionizer to stand overnight. 9. Unstrap the hose and lower it to allow the vinegar to run out and re-install the ionizer. 10. Flush the unit by running acidic water for 5 minutes, followed by alkaline water for 1 minute. If this does not entirely solve the problem then please see below for the descaling procedure using a pump. |

8. | Descaling Using A Pump (Athena, Melody, Venus only) | Back to top |
A 8. |
If using the passive vinegar filling method of descaling is not solving the reduced flow, then implementing active descaling using an aquarium pump will solve the problem. 2. Remove the filter/s and shake as much water as possible from them. 3. Put the filter/s back in position ensuring they are fitted securely. 4. Prepare a vessel of white wine vinegar which is big enough for you to fully submerge the aquarium pump within. 5. Attach the inlet hose from the water ionizer to the pump (depending on the model of pump used, some diy modifications may be necessary to ensure the hose fits securely to the pump). 6. Submerge the pump in the white wine vinegar vessel. 7. Connect the pump to the electricity supply ensuring you use a safety circuit-breaker plug to avoid the possibility of electrocution. 8. Place all outlet pipes (both the chrome spout and acid water pipe) into the white wine vinegar vessel so the entire system is circulating the vinegar through the ionizer. You may experience a slow flow to being with but as long as there is a flow of vinegar passing through the ionizer then the vinegar will eventually break down the limescale deposits and flow will increase. 9. Descale the ionizer for 2-12 hours until good flow is achieved. 10. Recommission the ionizer and flush with water for 10-20 minutes to remove vinegar residue. |

9. | Disconnecting your ionizer | Back to top |
A 9. |
If you need to disconnect your ionizer for a period of time (moving house for example), then please take extra care when removing the supply pipes from their push fittings. The correct method for removing a pipe from its fitting is to ensure that the pipe is fully released from the grip of the fitting before trying to pull it out of the fitting itself. To unlock the fitting push the retaining collar inwards as per the image above (a small pair of pliers may be useful to apply equal force to both sides. Never use pliers for trying to pull out the pipe!). If you experience difficulty using the above method then another way to remove the pipe from the fitting is to push the pipe forwards (into the fitting), whilst also pushing the retaining collar inwards. Then, whilst still maintaining inwards pressure on the retaining collar so that it is firmly pushed against the fitting housing, pull the pipe gently away. When removing the mains supply pipe, always release the water pressure by turning off the water at the connection tap and then turning the unit on by pressing the power button (Delphi), or opening the control tap (Athena, Melody, Venus). Note: the push fittings will never need to be forced as this may damage the fitting causing it to leak. If you are experiencing difficulty removing the supply pipes, start again and ensure that the retaining collar is fully depressed before attempting to remove the pipes. |

10. | Changing filters | Back to top |
A 10. | Changing filters couldn't be easier. Simply open the filter housing door on your ionizer and push the filter downwards to release it from the top connector. Then pull the filter gently towards you until the filter top is free from the ionizer. Reverse this process to install your new filter. |
|
11. | The display has stopped working | Back to top |
A 11. | Generally this is caused by a blown ionizer fuse or blown plug fuse. Please replace both fuses (the ionizer fuse is located at the back of the unit and is released by unscrewing the black screw-top marked FUSE). If this does not solve the problem then your ionizer will need to be returned for repair by a technician. |

Limescale build-up is the single most common cause for reduced performance from your ionizer. Some simple ionizer maintenance should avoid these problems and give you many years of trouble free service.
PLEASE NOTE: if you live in an area with water hardness rated 300ppm or above, then we sternly advise you use the EOS Hard Water Eco Conditioner Cartridge to avoid potential problems in the future.
If you experience a decrease in alkaline water flow from your ionizer it is usually simply because your filter needs replacing (filters should be replaced every 6-12 months depending on usage and source water mineral content).
However, if your filter is quite new then the cause could be limescale build up in the internal pipework downstream of the electrodes and you should descale your ionizer using a mild acid (such as acid water or vinegar).
Reduced flow due to limescale usually does not occur for at least 12-24 months but can show in as little as 3-6 months if you are using your ionizer in a particularly hard water area and not using the EOS Hard Water Eco Conditioner Cartridge.
Please see our maintenance tips (left) for keeping your ionizer free from limescale build up.
